High School Program Overview

The Breaking Down the Walls program is a unique opportunity for students and staff to connect, share their stories, and realize…

"it's hard to hate someone whose story you know."

This program creates a safe environment for students to build empathy and understanding through our "play, trust, learn" model. By first helping students laugh together, they start to trust one another, and eventually want to learn from those outside their normal friend group. The assembly, training, and workshops leave everyone with the realization we are truly BETTER TOGETHER!

OUTCOMES

Breaking Down the Walls strengthens social and emotional learning (SEL), specifically building social awareness and relationship skills that are vital to student growth and success.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Assembly Kick-off Video

The week kicks off with a fun, lively, and intentional 20-minute video to be shared with all students and staff to set the tone: We are Better Together!

Student Leader Training

The Breaking Down the Walls facilitator will train a pre-selected group of students to lead small groups during a portion of the workshop experience. This 3-hour training will equip students with the vision of the program and prepare them to facilitate select activities on their workshop day.

Workshops

The workshops include a blend of large group, small group, and 1:1 experiences and provide an opportunity for students to create empathy, build social awareness, and create meaningful relationships with peers outside their traditional friend group.

Each 6 hour workshop day will include up to 175 students and 25 student leaders.

We will partner with your school to adhere to COVID-19 social distancing protocols to set the program up for success while keeping students and staff safe.

TESTIMONIALS

“The students really benefit in so many ways…emotionally, social and could really understand what other students are going through. I can’t speak highly enough about this program!

“I had a chance to go through the program for the past 3 years. This is BY FAR the best day of my entire school year. Getting to hear stories of the students around our campus helps me realize we are all working through things in life. It builds such a community on our campus.

“Breaking Down the Walls is the MOST impactful program that I have ever seen brought to a school.
